The Importance of Blood Sugar Monitoring

Glucose is really a kind of sugar in which powers bodily processes. This kind of sugar molecule is actually digested in the intake of meals, alot more in particular carbohydrate food. The sugar molecules will be assimilated through the entire body in the blood stream that will then end up being carried all through the entire body. In order to enjoy the energy-providing capabilities associated with glucose for that cells, what exactly is necessary is the actual hormone insulin. Unique kinds of cells, known as beta cells which are present in the pancreas synthesize insulin. This is just what takes place within a healthy and balanced person even though this isn’t the situation with people who are being affected by diabetes. When it comes to diabetes, the actual pancreas frequently will not or is just not effective at synthesizing the actual insulin hormone to be able to control blood sugar amounts. This disorder can in fact result in a great deal of numerous health problems, which often occur with people who suffer from diabetes.

The blood sugar levels generally elevates if you eat meals. This increase prompts the actual pancreas to create the insulin hormone to be able to aid within maintaining the glucose levels and assist in the usage of glucose substances as energy for that cells. In diabetes patients, there is actually either absolutely no or deficiencies in insufficient quantities of insulin synthesized therefore causing the actual increase from the levels associated with glucose within the bloodstream. Glucose, if discovered excessively in your body, causes the actual blood to become thicker therefore making one’s heart to pump motor the blood to provide the system. In addition for this, excessive levels of blood glucose within the bloodstream cause the shortcoming of the actual blood to transport on additional essential substances for example nutrients in addition to oxygen substances. The liver and also the kidney will also be overworked since the insulin hormone assists for making the removal of glucose in the blood much easier. When insulin exists, the kidneys and also the liver degenerate because there isn’t any fuel which will provide the power to help to make these features possible and also the glucose will often become thick within the excretory internal organs.

All of those events isn’t a one-time deal just like like the stroke or perhaps a heart assault. The illness wears aside the capabilities from the organs gradually, thereby brewing as much as organ failure later on. This is perfect for the very reason diabetes sufferers must have their glucose levels to end up being regularly monitored to be able to prevent severe complications to occur over time. Great – I best I can find
10/02/2013
We use this for my 6 yr old child who was diagnosed in the summer. This is the best blood glucose monitor I can find. When you account for the price of the strips, the ease of use, the accuracy, you can’t beat it. I first used the AccuChek Nano that our doctor gave us. Did not like it. It takes more blood and the lancets hurt my son more. Then we used the FreeStyle Lite. Uses less blood than the Nano, but I didn’t like how it sucked up the blood on the side. And the lancets hurt too. Plus, they are expensive strips, even with insurance!!! Then I got this one. LOVE it. We got the ultra thin lancets and also the ultra thin plus and it doesn’t hurt him anymore. Sometimes it does hurt a tiny bit, but not usually. And this uses much less blood so I don’t have to squeeze my sons little fingers so much. They are fair priced. Accurate, never had a false reading. Never had a test strip break on me(as stated by another customer). The strip doesn’t glide in as well as others, but I haven’t had one break and I can still slide it in one handed. I totally recommend this to anyone!!

Type 2 Diabetes Exams and Tests

Exams and Tests

Your doctor may suspect that you have type 2 diabetes if your blood sugar level is greater than 200 mg/dL. To confirm the proper diagnosis, one or more of the following tests may be taken.

Diabetic blood tests:

Fasting blood glucose level — diabetes is diagnosed if it is greater than 126 mg/dL multiple times
Hemoglobin A1C test — Diabetes: 6.5% or more
Oral glucose tolerance test — diabetes is confirmed if glucose level is more than 200 mg/dL 2 hours after ingesting a special high sugar drink

Diabetes testing is suggested for:

Overweight kids who have other risk chances for diabetes, beginning at age ten and repeated every two years
Over-weight adults (if Body Mass Index is greater than 25) that have other risk chances
Adults over age forty-five every three years
If you have been shown to have type 2 diabetes, you will need to work very closely with your primary care physician. Most likely you will need to visit your primary care physician every three months. At the visits, you can expect your primary care physician to perform the following:

Check your blood pressure
Check the bones and skin on your legs and feet
Check if your feet are feeling numb
Check your eye’s health
The following tests will help you and your doctor monitor your diabetes and prevent problems:

Testyour blood pressure checked at least every year (blood pressure goals should be 140/80 mm/Hg or lower).
Test your A1C (hemoglobin A1C) everysix months if your diabetes is well controlled; if it is not then every three months.
Have your cholesterol and triglyceride levels checked yearly (aim for LDL levels below 70-100 mg/dL).
Get yearly tests to make sure your kidneys are working well (microalbuminuria and serum creatinine).
Visit your eye doctor at least once a year, or more often if you have signs of diabetic eye disease.
See the dentist every six months for a thorough dental cleaning and exam. Make sure your dentist and hygienist know that you have diabetes.
